Because lectures are supposed to cover actual new concepts which means the prof needs to do some examples of these new concept on the board. Doesn't make sense to ask student to do things they haven't seen before in their entire lives. I do the exercises in my own time, like I should. Also, many courses have a questions lecture before finals where everyone can send in questions to the prof and he will answer them in this lecture for everyone to enjoy or you can just email him casually during the course and he will either answer you personally or spend 5 minutes at the beginning of class. But to waste time on letting students do the examples just seems very time inefficient if you ask me. Please quote some studies of why your method is better if you can though, it is interesting to see if there really is something to it.
