So we all know Charles Petzold's "Programming for Windows" is the book to turn to for everything Win32. But what about the Linux/Unix APIs? I know literally nothing about them, and would like to get started working with them. What's the definitive resource for Linux/Unix API programming?

Anyone know of any good books or resources with problems and solutions for a semi-advanced matrix algebra, preferably for statistics?

The book we're using is "Advanced Calculus with Applications in Statistics", and although the matrix algebra section is quite difficult, it's not very long.
