If information science was applied mathematics, it would be called applied mathematics in discrete math.

Algorithmics is not mathematics.

Actually there is an easy way to show this.

If computer science was applied math, then this would mean that all computer programs would be generated using formal methods.

Nobody seriously does this, it's way too slow and highly inefficient. (but great for your nuclear reactor firmware etc)

It's more like applied math is subset of algorithmics rather than the other way around.
