I had a dream, in that dream a truth was revealed to me, societal change and development is based on the necessity of cyclical wars.

Think about what we could do if London was levelled tommorow, the rebuilding wouldnt be some haphazard mess like the town is now, grown out of lack of space between several smaller towns that merged into one with a terrible sewer system and generally terrible building work erywhere.

Noones going to suggest that they just level london out of the blue and rebuild it to a new model, the money alone would be astronomical.

But if there were a war and it was destroyed then it could be rebuilt a modern mecca of western civilisation, think something along the lines of abu dhabi, the glimmering city in the desert.

adversity breeds creativity.

I woke with a sick feeling, the memory is so clear in my mind, the realisation dawning.

Oh i still applaud ourselves, i mean to be able to evolve to this level of intelligence is rare.
I just know there are others with the same intelligence or higher.

Ok, i am trying to grasp this concept but i think i am missing something.

If you look deep enough into space you can see what the Universe looked like in its early stages. But the universe is also expanding. Does that mean that all of the galaxies and stars you see looking deep into space are no longer there? Or how should i put it better.

They aren't still there but they once were, and now what we see is galaxies that could actually be somewhere else.
But if the universe is expanding does that not mean that there should either be nothing there currently, or there are actually new things there that we can't see because the light hasn't reached us.

Basically want I am trying to figure out is, is that we have no idea whats going on right now FAR out in the universe because all we can see is the past?

Hopefully i explained that well enough, if not i can elaborate on certain parts

Yes, Astronomy is awesome.

I spent about 3 hours last night outside, just using my telescope and looking at how clear the sky was.

It's not normally so clear here, and for some reason a lot of lights weren't on either so i got a good view of the sky.

Love looking at space, it never ceases to amaze me.

If I were immortal I would watch the formation of a star and its solar system all the way to the stars death.

My life would be complete after that, and i don't rightly know what I would do afterwards.

Hey /sci/ i am curious.

What got you to choose what you wanted to study for the rest of your life?

For me, I chose Astronomy because no matter how many times i go out at night and look up at the sky i am always amazed.

inb4 someone says they do it for money. Your a fag if you do it that way.

>had favorite dinosaurs left and right.
>fell in love with Astronomy and forgot about Paleontology and what dinosaurs were my favorite.

Feels bad man.

>Spacecrafts can travel around in circles on a flat earth model, so normally traveling in a spacecraft doesn't say anything about the shape of the earth.

this implies that you meant that going into space someone could not prove to you it was round. that they could just be going in circles.

i gave you a foolproof way to know that it is round once you're in space.

and don't tell me to go look up flat earth theories because i dont understand it. i dont want to understand it. unless you or your theory can tell me whats on the other side of the planet if its flat, and why we don't have documented proof of the "edge". your theory can go eat a dick for all i care.

Let's say that the fan is massless and all that crap since it's a thought experiment.
The center rotates at lightspeed, let's say.
(nevermind that this doesn't make sense because "lightspeed" is speed, not angular momentum, but let's say that it rotates at lightspeed a few centimeters away from the center.)

The tip of the fan, located a gazillion light years away, still only moves at lightspeed.

the speed of light in a vacuum is the absolutely maximum speed of everything. If something should go faster, it doesn't. If it means stuff will break, then stuff will break. If it means things will stop making sense from a newtonian perspective, then things will stop making sense from a newtonian perspective.

Help, /sci/, I want to destroy fucking everything. How do you recommend I go about doing it?

How would you destroy fucking everything?
The more everything you destroy, the better.

Pic related, it's destroying fucking everything.
