It requires less fuel to launch near the equator, they're taking advantage of Earth’s natural rotation by launching toward the east from Cape Canaveral.

Also it's on the ocean and they don't want to take the miniscule chance something drops in a populated area. Pretty amazing though. Imagine aborting the launch like 10 minutes in or so and dropping down near Ireland.
