Directional arrows serve literally no purpose once you know how the automaton works and what colors represent what directions. Complex ([math]\mathbb{C} \rightarrow \mathbb{C}[/math]) graphs don't have a gorillion arrows all over the place, they use color and brightness to denote direction.
