What is the evolutionary/biological process that would create homosexuality? I mean if evolution would weed out genes that were detrimental to offspring then how does it exist?
Maybe it exists because people who were gay in the past conformed and married and had children thus spreading the 'gay gene'. If that is the case, with modern relative acceptance of sexuality would that gay gene die out?
But maybe that is wrong, and homosexuality is a constant, then that would imply that it's not genetic, then what could it be?

I'm a physics/math student, so forgive my ignorance about biology, genetics and evolution. But I would very much like to know from someone who has a better understanding.
