Fashion is also a function of technology. Recall my 'social practicality' discussion earlier. As technology progresses, the number of items a white-collar worker carries decreases. An I-phone replaces the need for a laptop bag, for example. For non-working society, technology affects what clothing is available. For example, if cotton production and processing was made dirt cheap we'd suddenly see everyone wearing cotton because of changes in cotton technology. If skin-tight air-cooled plug-suits were suddenly cheaper than cotton, everyone would be wearing them.

Finally, I propose fashion is a function of male hormone. Historically, women's wear has progressed to be more attractive to the male sex while male fashion has progressed to...be more attractive to the male sex.

Comfort is a factor to be noted, but while more significant in modern times than olden, a trivial coefficient compared to those listed.
