There are a lot of space-related activities that can help improve peoples' lives on Earth. Solar power satellite systems for one example. Or say, getting kids interested in science and engineering again.

Although really - if space is so expensive, how is that we can blow more money in three days on Christmas presents?

Btw, this picture again.

not sure if i understand this correctly:

planets visible by naked-eye don't "twinkle" because they're reflecting Sol's light, but stars "twinkle".

why do stars twinkle?

"The meek shall inherit the Earth" is a parable for manned spaceflight.

PS. we currently spend more on cell phones in one year than the Apollo program spent in 10.

It's been almost 40 years since we've last visited the moon. Pong came out the same year of the last Apollo mission. Marvel Comics #1 came out the same year of the last Apollo mission.

A whole lot of shit happened in 1972. The only thing we can remember are Vietnam, and the Apollo program. How long until they are forgotten as well?

The 40th anniversary of not walking on the moon is coming up soon. (1972 - 2012)

PS. Revenues of cell phone handsets over the last 6 months was somewhere around 68 billion dollars. The entire Apollo program was accomplished for around 130 billion (inflation adjusted to 1998 dollars).

Y'all spend more money on cellphones in a year, than the Apollo program spent in a decade. And if you are a jobfag - it's quite likely that you spend more money on lunch in one week, than NASA receives from your yearly tax filing.

bump if you like space
