Maybe i'm retarded or too high but someone into computers and a.i. programming explain me something.

Instead of creating artificial intelligence via hardware like a robot brain made of microchips or programming one why not instead try to recreate the human brain in a virtual space with all the rules our flesh brains operate on but virtually? So you would just recreate a human brain and everything it requires to function just in a virtual space and fire it up, see what happens.
