Why is mathematical foundations so dead these days? The youngest Ph.D advisors I can find are like 85+.

I don’t understand the 2nd incompleteness theorem. I get the numbering system, but as soon as the substitution happens, I’m lost. I’m not yet able to see how a statement can talk about itself. Until then, I’m not actually convinced that this can happen, and I’ve yet to see a string of symbols that refers to itself, just a non-descript statement called “G.” Well what does G look like? Help me understand this.
