what does my precalc professor mean when he always qualifies something by first saying "in the standard precision .... blah blah blah"?

i am not a math or science major, i just need to pass precalc mathematics and statistics to graduate

I took the LSAT for kind of for fun. I scored 177. My current gpa is 3.8 (math major). I didn't really take law seriously but now that I may be able to get into a good school, idk
