Why dont just teach to do the easiest operations first? Often it's easier to divide first to avoid handling larger numbers

UNL (BS) and EPFL (MSc), US citizen wanted to try a master's abroad.

Electrical engineering at both, focused on photonics for masters.

At a top 3 ranked (EE) uni in the US for my 1st year of PhD focused in photonics. To be honest I should have stayed at EPFL or gone to ETHZ because now I have to take some courses again, get paid less, and will probably take a year or more longer than it would have been.

Please help me /sci/

I'm actually above the class average, so I don't know if it's just me or if the class is ridiculously hard. Is this a predictor of how I'll do in my physics courses? I did well at IB HL Physics in high school, so it's not like I've never done physics before.
Does anyone have any advice for not being terrible? I don't want to have to repeat the class next semester and disappoint my parents.
