Anon you are confusing academics with IQ. The difference between above average intelligence and genius is a genius. I'd wager that geniuses are more rare in society than one might expect. For example, my dad is an 120 brainlet and I am considered 130 "very gifted" (which should be the cutoff for genius but that's beside the point). The difference is night and day because he doesn't like to read, doesn't like intellectual conversation, thinks that money is the source of all happiness, etc al., yet he creams me in the field of mathematics (particularly because I don't give a shit about math). It's further proof that the "Intelligence Quotient" needs to have additional weight to its tests such that the Verbal IQ and Quant IQ don't count against you if you exceeded in one but not the other.
