Read it again. Reduction gearing increases torque, meaning your transmission output has more torque than your crankshaft.

Do you not know what a crankshaft is? It goes INTO your transmission. If your 1st gear has a 4.5 gearing ratio, torque is increased from your engine to your driveshaft by 4.5. Even with a 20% loss, that's still 3.6x the torque of your crankshaft making its way to your differential. Differentials have reduction gearing as well, increasing torque even more.

Obviously a Passat isn't going to have 3300 rear wheel torque. All I'm saying is it's going to be more than engine torque.
