I'm a popsci gurgling moron, but this is my assumption
>we proved that we can ignite a fusion reaction using less energy from the lasers than is produced by the reaction

some people think it's a desperate attempt for more funding, which is plausible. This is notable mainly since the result was unexpected, the lab is supposedly primarily aimed at weapons research - not power generation.
