We also live in a society that has a heavily proceduralized social interaction, social rules and social structure. A structure that does not give full freedom for humans to express the full range of species-typical behaviours and emotional expressions. These do not just go away by suppressing them or whatever.

Stimulants, entactogens and psychedelic substances all have a tendency to bring many species-typical behaviours to the surface involving emotion, elation, euphoria, sexuality, empathy but also psychosis, dread, paranoia, anger and on the neutral scale, simply energy, creativity and an altered attention span (in some ways perceiving more, in some ways perceiving less, while also being attuned to different sensory inputs from usual).

There is an intricate connection between certain patterns underlying human sensory processing, cognition, rhythm, human species-typical behaviours as one factor, substances that bring these factors within the realm of conscious perception and music that is either designed or just happens to touch on many of these aspects as well.
