with tremendous efforts, interstellar colonization is fathomable. There are literally a BILLION things you have to think about before that, but it would be feasible. The big crunch isn't a problem. It will take another 10 or 20 billion years before the universe starts showing signs of age, and even then trillions of star will still be around.

The sun on the other hand will "only" be around for another 4 and a half billion years or so (or is it 3.5 billion ?), so that's something to watch from another perspective entierly.

Also, remember than will we're not doing anything worthwhile to save our planet and discover what has to be the most mind buggling question of all time, the history of mankind is like a few seconds to the age of the universe. A few hundread thousand years ago we were still monkeys, yet the sun was there regardless and so were all the things we can see today.

It's hardly a matter of time, it's a matter of getting out of the fucking chair.
