For mathematical morphology/image processing
is there a name for or operation that does what hit-or-miss does (binary)
but instead of the transformed image only having 1's where the origin of the structuring element leads to a match, there are 1s in all the places the structuring element coincides with the image?

so performing the operation using a structuring element shaped like a tetris-L padded with zeros should result in an image consisting only of isolated tetris-Ls.

I have a degree in English and Philosophy and a masters in Education. I don't want to teach kids anymore and my Humanities degree is next to worthless. I learned python and then C which lead me to embedded systems and computer architecture. Should I go back to school for EE? I need to learn/ relearn a bunch of precalc but I'm extremely motivated and I'm a pretty fast learner. I also have a decent amount of free time. Is EE at a uni worth it, or should I take a college program? I'm not entirely familiar with my options yet but I'm neither afraid of rigor nor time commitment. Just looking for some general insight here...

i have those things besides (though really not much number theory at all)
except i'm flipping through it now and i'm remembering why i fucking hate algebra
i might just skip to the analytic part with the theorem i cared about at the time anyway, with primes in arithmetic progressions

ah, i was going to continue with the irish example, but >>10242202 already said it.
in fact, the moment someone actually explained to me what "race is a social construct" means i realized it was fucking obvious and that i was being an idiot. within a few weeks all of the /pol/shit i had eaten up disappeared.
it was kind of like finding out how evolution works and going "what the fuck? that's not some magical process, that's literally just fucking obvious" and then suddenly evolution deniers all look like morons.
you'd need to read more into it to get a better sense of how race is a social construct as opposed to a scientific one, since just "le irish" is a single anecdote. but this is relevant in the US to all different racial groups. as another instance, latinos originally were considered FAR more white than asians in the west coast of the US. as wealth and industries shifted and trade with eastern countries increased, the perceptions naturally shifted along with the social setting and their roles reversed.
if you truly are interested in learning more about the sociological history of race in different parts of the world, i would highly recommend it. for someone who barely gives a shit about sociology or history i was surprised at how interesting it was to me. and the best part is, the kids spouting "race is a social construct" in your class probably had no clue what that means just like how pop-sci idiots think evolution is like pokemon. anyone worth their shit could have a very nuanced and deep discussion with you about this, addressing your skepticism knowledgeably and respectfully. i do not claim to know much since i've only taken a couple of classes on the historical perspectives of class and race structures and choose to just do math instead of worrying about that messy stuff, but i have met people with some very reasonable and inductive research building up these sociological theories. it's damn impressive.

So, it's taking that lava about 2.5 seconds to fall, meaning (9.81 m/s^2) * (2.5 s) ^2 = 61.3 m = 201 ft.

Btw, what the fuck is that terrifying snorting sound in the background?

its probably some low radiation uranium isotope. its wierd how common this isotope is. the yellow/brownish oxidation layer is very typical for this. you may be able to scratch it off and so some tests. although its very low radioactive decay, id not keep it close to my bed, OP. its also illegal in some states to own these. where are you from?

What does it mean to "yea just multiply by dx and move it to the other side and..."?

hey
dont fuck up your dissertation and lose out on the chance for any academic credibility because you try to claim that "x race is inferior" or something. That's about the stupidest thing you could do.
Make sure you're using ridiculously explicit facts and evidence, and your logical leaps are incredibly sound.
You do not want to leave something up to interpretation when they think you might be a racist.

Somebody help me better understand this concept. The way I understand it, like in the light clock thought experiment, is that as you're moving a nanosecond's worth of light takes longer to reach you, but if you're moving at light speed through space- the light behind you would never reach you and look like a frozen picture, but what about the light of whatever's happening in from of you? Wouldn't it just hit you at an accelerated rate?
