If you aren't participating in distributed computing projects like BOINC or Folding@home why aren't you?

They use the idle cpu time to advance science, mathematics and medicine at no further cost to the user. They are also easy to use. Folding@home has a chrome app, a desktop app and a mobile app; and BOINC has a desktop and mobile app. You can choose to participate in any project you choose.

What's your excuse for not contrubuting to these hugely beneficial projects??

What BOINC project should I donate processing power to?
Not SETI.

Howdy, /sci/. Is anyone here familiar with BOINC? If not, BOINC stands for "Berkeley Open Infrastructure for Network Computer." It networks computers together of those who run its client, and allocates unused system resources to complex calculations for a project designated by the user.

If something like this was set up, and you had control over the project to be implemented, what would you wish to have calculated for you?

Install BOINC and share your computer power to mathematicians, biologists, chemists, doctors and scientists trying to prove Gravitational waves, cure many human diseases with proteins (AIDS/HIV/Alzheimers/Malaria/...), designing better satellite propellant system, searching for extra-terrestrial signals from S.E.T.I. , test some number theories .....

and all that while your computer is on screensaver mode. (it doesn't make your computer slower nor anything while you are in screensaver)
and you can even see the process through trying all of the combinations on GUI

so what are you waiting for? download screensaver called BOINC and help the scientists all over the world

Can it run through BOINC? I already run many boinc projects, some of them about protein folding.

This is now also general BOINCfag thread.

Did you know you can donate your unused computing power to science??

You can donate your processing power to whatever you want... Cancer research, climate change prediction models, research into fusion, fucking maths... Whatever the fuck you want.

It's a free program for your computer and it stops you wasting your CPU.

Start using it... NOW

BOINCfags and Gridfags report in!

Post your projects, stats and battlestations running BOINC or other grid computing soft.

I run Rosetta (23 966), World community grid (27 285) and Milkyway (165 000) on one Core i7 with Radeon 5800 and two i3 notebooks.

We should make a /sci/ team btw.

You have ten seconds to explain why you're not running this right now.

If you don't know what it is:
>Use the idle time on your computer (Windows, Mac, or Linux) to cure diseases, study global warming, discover pulsars, and do many other types of scientific research.
http://boinc.berkeley.edu/

Also, 420chan's /sagan/ has a pretty big team working right now.

You can volunteer the idle time on your computer for scientific research. Just download the BOINC client, and run a particular project. There are a wide variety of projects (Math, biology, astronomy, physics, etc) to support.

FAQ which should answer all questions:
http://taimapedia.org/index.php?title=420chan_BOINC_team

I have created 4chan teams for most of the projects. Please sign up for these teams. Our first goal should be to beat 420chan's team. They have 337 people on their team. Surely we can beat a bunch of pot smoking losers?

Download BOINC:
