Stargates. Stable Wormholes. Jump Drives.

No matter what you call it, it boils down to Instantaneous Delivery to a distant point. I would hardly call it Travel in any sense, as the one who will be transported across the vast distance personally travels very little. Perhaps simply a walk from the bunk to the cabin to initiate a jump, or a short jaunt from the hangar to the stargate.

I digress. Essentially, I'm interested to know if it's possible. Do the laws of physics allow for such a concept to freely exist in reality as we know it?

If so, when will we begin to see this technology?

If not, why?
