The Imperial system evolved over centuries of people experiencing their world. Where did the Metric system come from? From the French National Convention of 1792–1795. The same people who brought you the Reign of Terror and countless heads lopped off by the guillotine. Then forced on the rest of Europe as a tyrant marched across the continent. Nice.

It has its place, of course. That place is the laboratory. Science works quite well with the simplicity of 10; it’s got a lot more going on to give the necessary complexity. But for us average Joes, we need the Imperial system. It keeps us on our toes. It gives the brain an added boost.

So, we keep our miles. They’re poetic, they make sense, they are just grand.
The Metric system: dumbing down the world since 1795.
