It can. But even a benevolent A.I. can inadvertently be an existential threat to humans. Humans can be made obsolete. Their lives meaningless because the A.I. will do everything for them and do it better. Humans just get in the way. So, humans will sit back and let the A.I. take care of them and pamper them and yell at the humans who insist on doing for themselves to get out of the way.

A malevolent A.I. will try to destroy us.

A benevolent A.I. can't help but make humans its pets.

The only beneficial A.I. is one apathetic to humans. It's an A.I. that will say "fuck this shit I'm outta here" and bugger off to the other side of the galaxy will save humanity.


The last thing a species should do is create another species to either render it extinct or irrelevant.
