i have a friend who is insanely passionate about physics and mathematics. he works hard and knows particle physics inside and out. he's so good that people ask him for help.

however, he suffers from insomnia and gets seriously anxious in exam conditions. he either falls asleep in exams or panics and just doesn't write anything. as a result, none of our professors will write him a reference.

it's the fucking worst seeing someone so passionate get pushed out of science - what can he possibly do to salvage his career? he doesn't deserve this.
