Complete plot explanation separated into all the different timelines. Lots of spoilers in this one.

That's all the ones I have.

I have a variable DC power supply that produces both positive and negative voltage from 0-12v. I have a guitar pedal that I'm using next to my mixer, and I just wanna put some alligator clips over onto the lil battery hookup and put 9v DC into it. Obviously I know to connect the input and the ground, but I'm too much of a newb to know what the difference would be - does it want positive or negative voltage?

Does it not care cause the potential difference is the same magnitude? If it does care about direction, then would +9v be the same as the -9V outputs with the ground hooked up as 0v to drop to -9v on the hot lead? Is 0 dropping to -9v the same as 9v to zero - or is it not so simple when you're talking about how the power supply actually provides voltage...

Insight appreciated for a layperson. Pic unrelated.

Perhaps this will help to clear things up.
