The modern feminism is the continuing existence of a force/organization that was necessary 100 years ago to deal with some serious issues, not least of which was the large gender inequality of those times.

Similar to bureaucratic organizations, having achieved its goals and dealt with the issues that it was original created to deal with, it must now find things to justify its continued existence, but without the serious issues of the past it has to latch onto insignificant or indisputable things and try to make it into an issue. (I.E Men make better firepeople due to their physical strength, there aren't enough female CEO's or politicians, woman should be womyn ect)

Most people (women in particular) realize that these things are not so much issues to be fought against, but rather simple facts of life that could change in the future without protest or social activism, and thus moderates are disinterested in these issues, leaving only radical zealots to push their agenda forward and stigmatizing Feminism as the radical fringe movement it has become today.
