Really, /sci/? I think you watch too much sci-fi/startrek. If anything science has told us, if you are paying attention to facts and not fantasy, space is an extremely inhospitable place.

If humans embarked on a deep space mission, they would be ripped to pieces by space debris, eventually lose power, be killed and sterilized by radiation and in general be completely fucking destroyed.

Why do we hang on to this idea that going into space is going to work when we haven't been to even the moon since the fucking 70s? That was over 40 god damned years ago. This isn't working.

Enjoy the upper atmosphere and delusions of grandeur as you destroy the only planet you are ever going to be on.

I'm speaking as an atheist:

I just watched the Curiosity documentary by Hawking. He argues that because cause and effect relations are separated by time, and that time didn't exist before the Big Bang, there could not have been a cause for the universe's existence, like a Creator.

idk, but this doesn't seem like a good argument. Could it not be argued that that cause and effect can be separated, not in time, but in some other way? IMHO it seems to me that there are plenty of better arguments against the existence of a creator. Thoughts?

Stephen Hawking has covered this subject already. It isn't possible to travel back in time, only forward. Traveling back in time would entail already being back in time, so therefore not existing in the first place. Unless you account for alternate dimensions, in which case you would have multiple selves.

More than average intelligence most of the time comes with more than average dysfunction. That's how "normal" people complete.

You get to sit at a computer going "Jesus fuck, I just don't understand this!" while the man who figured it out 10 years ago in his head, lies on a dirty mattress somewhere nursing his heroin addiction.

See? it all evens out.

well there are "quantum singularities" which are what people really imply when they say "black hole". There is good math to support them too.

However, Steven Hawking did the math (after decades of postulating about them) and attempted to see if the universe NEEDED black holes to exist. He concluded, no.

So essentially there aren't any black holes (quantum singularities), it's just big fucking quasars and what happens when a whole lot of matter is crammed in one space (super black holes in the center of galaxies)
