The fact that the brain has the latent neural structuring to create these visionary states is the most problematic issue confronting modern science. Why would the brain evolve to have the consistent capacity to experience divine realms of pure creative consciousness where divine epiphanies on the nature of reality and consciousness occur? Makes zero sense if you hold that consciousness = neural chemicals and electrical signals making computations. Altered states and mysticism hint that human consciousness is far more complicated and mysterious than ever imagined by straightedges. I would go as far to say that cracking the enigma of existence lies in the human mind, not cosmology or quantum physics. It'll be psychonauts who will one day answer the eternal questions "What is the Matrix?" as physicists and cosmologists continue to run into dead-ends with they fantastically autistic epistemologies.
