Why the fuck is the Gamma function to the right of factorial function?
Is it only so that <span class="math">\displaystyle\Gamma(x+1)=x\Gamma(x)
instead of <span class="math">\displaystyle(x+1)!=(x+1)(x)!
? Is it that way so that the first singularity is at <span class="math">\Gamma(0)
instead of at <span class="math">(-1)!
?
Because apart from those two reasons, I see no other reason.
Hell, even most identities look better with the <span class="math">\Pi
function that Gauss used (Where <span class="math">\displaystyle\Pi(x)=\Gamma(x+1)
. For example: <span class="math">\Pi(x)\Pi(-x)=(sinc(\pi x))^{-1}
instead of having the ugly identity <span class="math">\displaystyle\Gamma[x]\Gamma[1-x]=\frac{\pi}{\sin(\pi x)}
.
Another example of an identity that is more aesthetically pleasing with <span class="math">\Pi
is <span class="math">\displaystyle\frac{d}{dx}\left(\log(\Pi(x))\right)=H_x-\gamma
So there must a damn good reason to tilt it to the right and all make all those beautiful identities uglier and just make it less intuitive.
Apart from the reasons I listed in the beginning, I can't imagine anything else but I MUST be missing something.
So, what is/are the reason/reasons to do that?

Thanks in advance. This has been bugging me for a while.
