Stress engineer here, I use Patran, Apex, and Nastran for linear static FEM (Nastran is based, Patran sucks but uses the same licenses, Apex also uses the same licenses and is a good meshing tool, but still needs further development), some proprietary software for structure-specific stress analysis, and Excel/VBA for everything else
