Dear /sci/,
What does it mean to gain "immortality in the minds of others" and why is it important to us?
Why does it feel good to know that others are thinking about one's self when one is absent?
Why do so many of our actions seem (at least partially) directed at acquiring such "cognitive real-estate?"

Is it simply the likelihood that such thoughts end up boomeranging back around and having positive emotional effects on the individual who imposed/inspired them (the feel good of fame) or is there something beyond this? Perhaps a satisfaction separate from other individuals, or something beyond even one's own happiness?

Is there a goal to notoriety beyond simply feeling good about oneself?
