How does a spaceship cool down?

Electronics, the sun, body heat, all add to the temperature, but there's no conduction or anything to release heat.

>Still thinking a space program is necessary despite our current limits with technology.
I bet a few of you still believe this. Anyone else glad that relic of the Cold War is gone?

So what's Endeavor doing now? I know it'll be docking with the ISS in a few days, but what's it up to in the meantime? This is it's last time in space, I home they're doing some cool shit with it while they got it...

also, general space vehicle appreciation thread

>We just don't use expendable launch systems any more. It's not feasible.

yeah, instead we got this multi billion dollar piece of shit that uses foam tiles that easily fall off to protect against heat from re-entry. gg nasa.

Hypothetical situation just for fun

Humanity on Earth is doomed, and we have only 1 year to prepare to leave the planet and go somewhere else, using current technology, to save the human race with a very small colony (around 50 people)

Where do we go in the solar system? Would we adapt once we got there? Or how long would we survive for?

Orbiter 2010 is out! I'm sure lots of you have heard of it before, but if you haven't, it's a free to play space shuttle simulator that's ultra realistic. http://orbit.medphys.ucl.ac.uk/home.php
