1. There is nothing greater than God.
2. Suppose God were finite, then you could add one to it to obtain something greater than it.
3. Therefore God is infinite.
4. There is no such thing as infinity.
5. Therefore God doesn't exist.

from the right perspective, we can observe that the captain is made from atoms which were produced at the start of the universe, and i could go on to calculate how long ago that was based on a some underlying theory, yet however we regard a physical model of the universe and its origin this would be underlined by an epistemological substructure impossible to shake. no matter what observations we make or how numerous can we observe a continuity of time from one point to another and even less so before we can make an observation. suppose the big bang theory is correct. how do we understand our concept of time before then? how do we ensure a continuity of time between then and now? perhaps another formulation would be to create a function that produces the age of the ships captain. does such a function exist? if no such function exists, have we proven that there is no solution? in seeking to take full advantage of numerical methods, rigorous definitions which allow us to speak surely about such things as functions have fallen to the wayside. i hope that in a future mathematics we may recapture the importance of rigor that the greeks laid out so many years ago.
