So, I've got a question here.
Most AI research is done with specialized hardware designed to emulate the human brain, but as I see it, all human though is essentially a problem solving process, whether it fallls into the realm of conscious or unconscious thought. We know that the human psyche is the result of a good number of chemical reactions in the brain, and that these chemical reactions form a practical way of reacting to the external world.
So, practically, the psyche could also be simplified and imitated by programming languages that could replicate (or imitate if you'd prefer) human consciousness. Why isn't this approach more popular in AI research? Are there limitations to what a programming language can accomplish where something like neural networks and the like can succeed?

So I've looked into quantum computing and science geeks are always vomiting how OMG COMPUTERZ WILL BE SO FAYUST CAUSE computers will be able to do a billion things simultaneously or something.....

my question is, how do we know particles can be two places simultaneously and its not just a really quick movement cause its fucking quantum level?

Hey /sci/, statistics is my least favorite subject and i'm lost. any help is appreciated.

Basically: Normally distributed, mean = 13 kg, standard deviation = 3.1 kg. What is the probability that a randomly selected bag weights more than 15 kg.

Random back ground for your time.

Considering that a group of social outcasts were capable of changing our entire civilization with their ideas (i.e. Personal Computers)

How likely is, that something like this happen s again in this decade?

And how hard will it be in the future, considering that we will have totally different networks and corporations.

Is it still possible to

Not exactly science, but it has a futuristic theme.

How vital is it to get a couple humanities courses in University if you want to get a fair chance for medical school?

Art History falls into the Humanities, and it's the one I'm most interested in, but are some humanities courses judged better than others?

R^3 Vector Problem.

>Find the equation of a line that passes through point A and intersects a line ( r = p + sm ) at a right angle.

>You're given the values for the equation and the point.

1) Find the direction vector from A to p, then use that with m to find the normal to the plane both lines are in.

2) The cross product of the normal and m is the direction vector of the line whose equation I'm trying to find.

3) You got a point and a direction vector for the equation now. Done.

Was this method correct?

I have a question concerning photons from gamma decay.

They have very high frequencies, but is it also correct to say they have very high energy as well? And if so, how can you prove that with an equation?
