Alright /sci/
I want all of you, from premed club in h.s. underage fags to med school students to chief of medicine (doubt any of those arounds here) to have a serious discussion about HIV/Aids.

Why hasn't this shit been cured? I understand its virology and genetic variance is unlike a typical virus and the bugger is near impossible for our immune system to handle effectively.

I understand that it has inactive phases that interferes with MHC class molecules from laching on to it properly, but theoretically, if we coax all of the HIV viruses to readily turn into its active form and with our immune system and the help of HAART medication, effectively eradicate the bugger?

Or would it be easier to find some way to prevent the HIV virus from latching on to our CD4+ T-Cells and allowing the virus to stay in our system floating?

The idea of eradicating the virus by vaccination is unlikely given the virus' ability to quickly reproduce and high mutation rate which wil render it ineffective in no time.

Also, we have to learn how discriminate from T cells that contain a copy of DNA of the virus from those who don't. Best way to do that is to somehow force all the cells that carry the gene.

Open to suggestions or saying how retarded I am. I'm sure people have thought of this before, but I want to hear other suggestions.

What would have been the end result of a time traveler introducing HIV into brothels all around the world in 1100 ACE?

Would most of the human population have been wiped out?
