Help time ??
This is from a section in a textbook I have on Markov chains and the problem is as follows,
A zero-seeking device operates as follows: If it is in state m at time n, then at time n+1, its position is uniformly distributed over the states 0,1,...,m-1 Find the expected time until the device first hits zero starting from state m.

Can't seem to figure it out, I can see what the TPM will look like but ugh I don't know. Anyone seen this before?

Abstract Algebra Proof, I am not sure my proof is legit.
Suppose that $a$ and $b$ belong to a group, $a$ has odd order, and aba^{-1}=b^{-1}. Prove b^{2}=e.

So my proof is

We know b\inC(b) ( b is in C(b) and that C(b) is a subgroup of the group) Since C(b) is a subgroup and b is in it then b^{-1} is also in C(b). Since aba^{-1}=b^{-1} this also means a is in C(b). ( this is what I am questioning) Therefore (b commutes with a) and aa^{-1}b=b^{-1} which implies b=b^{-1} which implies b^{2}=e.
