Except there's nothing wrong with living in a hut. It's cheap and lasts a long time, easy to repair, too. You can even make it into a cozy permanent dwelling. Why should these people adopt your style of architecture when it's served them so well for millennia?

And not all Africans or even Sub-Saharan Africans lived in mud huts (spoiler: not all huts are made of mud, either).
