Still doesn't explain the teeth. Just... Why so fucking big? They weren't even hunting any large or armoured animals. So why?
The answer is the same reason why the peacock developed a gigantic plumage: to appease the females.
Unlike the Tiger, the peacock's plumage just makes them a little slower and increase energy demands. The Sabre's teeth however, was actively maladaptive and harmful. It was diffcult to eat and the energy demands were ridicolous.
