When I was in the dentist the other day waiting around I was looking through national geographic, and they had this remarkable picture of an exo planet. It was just a tiny dot granted, but still hugely significant.

...and this is the first observed exoplanetary motion.
The star is Fomalhaut, the brightest star in the Southern Fish and loving called the Eye of Sauron because of this image.
The star is in the centre, the large circle is debris swirling around the star (the protoplanetary disc), and the planet is shown off to the side. This was the first exoplanet discovered directly by observation: all others were discovered by analyzing dips in light as the planet passes the star or by detecting gravitational wobbles.
