/sci/, I'm going to be a senior in high school next year. I plan on studying astrophysics in college, I will be pursuing a Ph.D. So far I've primarily worked with computers and developing software, as I haven't had many opportunities to study physics or astronomy. I might even minor in CE, but I digress, what should I expect once I'm in college?

So /sci/, analytic or algebraic number theory? I don't plan to use it at all, but I figure I should take at least one class that has something to do with number theory. Also it might help on the math GRE. Which is more interesting and which is more applicable to other parts of math?

I'm 30 and starting a degree in astrophysics. Am I too old to be an astrophysicist? I can go to school for free, so I am certainly going. Will I be too old to be employable when I finish though? Does the astrophysics world look down on someone who didn't get into college and then the field straight out of highschool?

/sci/, do you think that religion will destroy our chances of diplomacy with another sapient species?

Imagine this scenario: Scientists have discovered a radio signal that is from a different civilisation in this universe. Can we expect legions of theists to protest, declare the aliens blasphemers, or call them demons that must be destroyed? Will their governments comply?

Areas I can see this most likely happening are the Middle East and the USA.
