>How far are we away from designer babies?
We already have designer babies, but their modifications are minor. We can make simple modifications based on a few allells. We could genetically engineer a child to be a bit stronger, smarter and healthier but not extraordinarily so. But the error rate today is still far too high for wide implementation, in 15 years it might be fixed.
In 30 years complex modifications could be accomplished and then you could reliably modify your offspring to have the best possible health, fitness and intelligence. A generation later we might tinker with synthetic XNA .
