Every scientist and mathematician use the already known knowledge to expand/discover/invent new things
Nobody (except for autists) starts from scratch, everyone continue from where the former men of science ended

Same for chemistry
Bunch of half assed experiments here and there don't make someone the "father of [some field]", otherwise you can also count Issac Newton as a chemist
