How much intelligence do we inherit from our parents? Not in a disrespectful way but my parents are quite dumb:

Is there any point in trying to become a professor if you're not a rich genius? The idea of doing research/teaching full time sounds like fun to me but what if I am too dumb to produce any worth while research? What if I go through all those years of schooling just to become an adjunct? How do people commit so many years of their life to pursuing a career in academia? How confident do you have to be to go down this route?

Majority of cs are clueless when it comes to calculus, they learn formulas and how to use them to pass exam, but what are those formulas, where it came from? why is it legit? how did they invent it?
