Archeology, become an academic. But you actually have to follow through with it man, otherwise you're fucked.

Archaeology is not a science. It is merely a sensible deductive procedure which attempts to establish historical facts by relying on results obtained by the physical sciences. Archaeology does not involve repeatable experiments; it only involves careful observations. These observations are "fed into" mathematical formulas obtained by the physical sciences in order to make plausible estimations of the chronology of historical events.

You're invited to dig for any mistakes in my argument.

I realise this is a science & math-board, but it's the only one connected to studies, so I will just try asking here. Expecting nothing.

I'm contemplating studying archeology next year, but I'm having second thoughts, even though ancient history interests me quite a lot.
- Lack of work (how badly is it lacking compared to other studies, like something revolving geology)
- Low pay (not that I would expect a lot, just enough to actually live)
- Other peoples view on the profession (I just feel that not enough people appreciate archeology as much as other more "useful" studies, like physics, architecture or geology. Maybe because most people don't give a damn about the past.
