Pure math grad here. I graduated with a shit GPA, I never became proficient in any programming language of any kind, and would you like fries with that.

My self-deprecation comes with a point: I DO punch up [math] \latex [/math] documents on a regular basis, and in my experience it is really really fucking easy to figure things out on your own initiative once you actually want to write something. [math] \latex [/math] solutions are commonly bundled with autistic, if imperfect and sometimes dated, help files, and then of course there's always the internet. 99% of the time, if you have a difficulty, you can search an answer, bash something together and keep going within the next 1-20 minutes depending on how elaborate the issue is.

If you know what file extensions are and how to zip and unzip folders and browse the internet and all that basic use-a-computer shit, then you can figure out [math] \latex [/math] . There's really no excuse if it's something you actually want to do.

I find that setting yourself a project of some kind is great because it forces you to get the answers you need.
