I suppose if OP comes back, I'll add a question.

What would bypassing rate limiting mechanisms for dopamine synthesis and release, eg via L-DOPA intake, be expected to do? Higher ROS and NOS production from breakdown, autoxidation, etc? Would it cause receptor downregulation?

Would it be apt to kill off dopaminergic neurons? Not in the context of parkinsons.

Is dietary intake of L-DOPA apt to be neurotoxic to dopaminergic neurons? I'm aware it bypasses the rate limiting mechanisms of dopamine's primary synthesis pathway, and its release machinery, but will it result in increased ROS and NOS production, and if so, does it really matter (relative to eg amphetamine etc)?

Will it lead to receptor downregulation?
