It's probably mild autism.

At first it seems like a big disadvantage in science where you need to be constantly publishing, going to conferees, socializing, and keeping up with all the hot new buzzwords and work that's apparently important due to popularity.
Autists are mostly ignored since they tend to follow where-ever their own logical thought process takes them, regardless of what others think.

Yet every once and awhile some autist actually does something important and revolutionizes a subject, in which case they are vehemently debated for challenging mainstream ideas, until finally being accepted, upon which normie scientists start using the fresh new buzzwords.
