Fermi Paradox time!

If there really are so many other advanced civilizations out there, where are they?

Iife is a chemical reation
there are chemicals in the universe-
great in their amount and variety
there is heat in the universe
long chain molecules + heat + time = life
life + time + bountiful conditions = intelligence

these elements are rare but rarity + unthinkably huge size of universe = certainty

we just have to wait until they pick up our radio and TV signals, then send some of their own

since we only started broadcasting in the 1930s
we could be waiting awhile

Not even. The inverse square law means you'd have to be within a few hundred lightyears to pick up even the more powerful radio transmissions from Earth before they get so weak they're indistinguishable from background noise. I think about the only signal we've ever sent that could actually reach someone out there would be that message sent from the Arecibo Observatory.

Picture related, it's what the aliens will see when they receive our message.
