Locality in physics. What does it mean?

My vague idea on the subject is that for a field theory, the relationship between two measurable quantities A, B depending on the position x, must be of the form A(x) = f(B(x)), and not depend on distant positions such as x+3. Things can't act at a distance, for that to happen there must be a "local" entity that moves and carries the information from one place to another. That can be done through a differential relationship, which would be a valid A(x)=f(B(x)).

However, I've recently started to study quantum mechanics, and I've heard that it is inherently non-local (my textbook on QM, Bransden & Joachain says so in page 763). I can't believe it, I love the concept of locality so much I won't put it aside so easily.

I expect that quantum mechanics will respect locality, perhaps in a more subtle way. What is the real answer?

I first heard that joke in the Decorum webcomic, which I found because of wetriffs.com, the xkcd related page of people in the shower with guitars, which sadly seems now to be down. Very sadly indeed.

>humour
does it really need to be an attempt at humor?
all too often that kind of thing falls flat,
those in the know... already know,
those who aren't simply don't get it,
it's a recipe for fail

why not just go with some sweet equations and be done with it w/o trying to be funny?

also "humour" British Commonwealth fag detected which is great b/c the captcha is Elizabeth, ponon

Temperature? Is that defined for a system of only two elemental particles?

And nope, wormholes are solutions to Einstein equations, which involves curvature of lorentzian space-time and shit.
Portals would be messing with topology of an euclidean or minkowski space. Something quite interesting is what happens with special relativity and the twin paradox. Using portal both twins can meet again without accelerating.
