Hello /sci/ I was hoping you guys can help me improve on my math skills.

Backstory

>attends uni
>takes calc 1
>gets a D in calc 1
>hates calc 1 so much that he starts to love it
>retaking calc 1 next semester with hopes of an A

What do I do? I have started to acquire a thirst for knowledge in science and math related fields. In highschool I was a total idiot and blew off all my classes giving me a poor math background. Am I doomed for life?
